Rebecca Dey Silva
1992-2010
MISSISSIPPI – Rebecca Dey Silva, age 18, formerly of Colorado City, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010, in Pass Christian, Mississippi, as the result of an automobile accident. A memorial service was held Monday, July 26 at 2 p.m. at the Primera Iglesia Bautista El Calvario with Felix Silva officiating.
USDA reps to met with Mitchell County residents Wednesday
USDA Rural Development representatives will be holding a Rural Development Office Day for the City of Colorado City Wednesday, July 28, 2010, from 10 am to 1 pm to present program information and applications to the public. The office day will be held at the Civic Center, 157 West 2nd. Information will be provided about USDA Rural Development Housing, Community and Business and Cooperative loan and grant programs.
Reds headed to state tourney
The Texas Teenage Baseball League’s Midget Reds are headed to the State Baseball Tournament to be held DeLeon.
The team is raising funds by holding a car wash at Charter Communications and window washing at Chevron Sat., July 24.

Spade Ranch rings visible on Google Earth
Meteor crater or salt dome? For years the concentric rings on the Spade Ranch were considered the results of a meteor impact.
However recent studies by a professor at Midland College cast a different light on the unusual formation.
Michael Makowsky, professor of geography at Midland College and colleague Danny McNeese began investigating the rings after a science documentary rekindled Makowsky’s interest in meteor craters.
“Earlier this year, I was visiting the Odessa Meteor Crater with two colleagues,” Makowsky said.
Ring formations have curious beginnings
The intriguing ring formations at the Spade Ranch attracted the interest of local geologist Troy Powell.

Beverly Hall
1954-2010
BIG SPRING -- Beverly Hall, 55, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at her residence. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel in Big Spring with Rev. Holston Banks, Jr., officiating.
Hospital starts work on second entrance
Civic and community leaders were on hand with representatives of the Mitchell County Hospital Board and the Chamber of Commerce at the groundbreaking for a new I-20 entrance for the hospital Tuesday.
The second entrance to the hospital was part of the original design plans; however the district felt it would be more prudent to wait until construction of the entrance was economically feasible, according to Karen Holman, hospital administrative secretary.
Oldies but Goodies Car Show
Come out and enjoy a day of fun in downtown Bronte August 21. Car show and arts and crafts booths will be open at 10 am and end at 2 pm.
Registration for the car show starts at 8 am in the bank parking lot. Bronte Volunteer Fire Department will be serving lunch around 11:30 under the trees at the Depot.
