Remains those of Hailey Dunn
In an emotional meeting at the Colorado City Police Department Friday afternoon, Chief of Police Roy Owens announced that the remains found near Lake J. B. Thomas in Scurry County last month have been confirmed to be those of missing Colorado City teenager, Hailey Dunn.
“It is a bitter-sweet moment,” Chief Owens said. “Our hope has always been that one day Hailey would walk through the front door safe and sound.”
Before the release of the information, Owens said the family of Dunn had been notified of the information. By 3:15 p.m., almost an hour before the information was to officially be release4d in Scurry County, the social network Facebook was filled with comments stating that Billie Dunn had been notified that the remains had been those of her daughter, Hailey.
The main question arising for Chief Owens was whether the police had a suspect in the case.
“We still have some work to do to get the information together to get a suspect,” Owens said. “We still need to determine where the actual crime took place, in Scurry County or in Mitchell County.”
Owens said the investigation would be a Scurry County investigation until a time when it was determined if harm befell Dunn in another county, mainly Mitchell.
