New year, new opportunities

Main Street welcomes a new year with so many opportunities to undertake new challenges and continue work on projects that are already underway.  We welcome two new businesses to our historic downtown located in historic downtown buildings.

Ty Wood moved his law practice to Walnut this month to a building that he and Amie worked so diligently on for several years. They have done a great job and our city history continues with this business addition and family addition.  Their precious daughter made her early appearance recently and the parents are beaming.

Nancy Thompson just opened the long awaited Pastry Palace and the renovation on the building is outstanding.  The business is located on Walnut as well and just a couple of doors down from Ty’s office.  Be sure and stop in to check out the yummy and enticing food that Nancy does so well.  We are so pleased to add another food location to our downtown district.

Main Street is working on a performance at the Opera House for February 13 that would include a delightful dinner before the performance.
Performers will include a quartet, incredible singers and readings of special love stories, as well as prizes for special couples.  A drawing will be included in the prize giveaways.

So make plans to come to the Opera House backstage for an elegant dinner and then a special stage performance or you can choose just the dinner or just the performance. You will actually have three outstanding choices for the evening.
I attended the Texas Forts Trail Annual Tourism and Preservation Roundup in Abilene last week and when I signed in I received quite a reception at the signup table.

Three women sitting there began asking about Junktique and the dates for the event.  When I signed in with the location of Colorado City, they associated the city with our annual Junktique Jamboree.  One mentioned that she still has the postcard on her desk from last year and wanted to be sure and come this year to “steal ideas.”  Two of the women were from Abilene and one from Comanche.  We don’t mind if they consider the event good enough to want to “steal ideas.”

Put the Junktique on your calendar for September 25-26 and bring your family and friends.

You can contact me at 325-242-0206 if you have any suggestions or would like to volunteer for any committee or event.
