Police make arrest in drug bust
Months of ongoing investigation resulted in an arrest by the Colorado City Police Department of a man suspected of being a drug dealer in Colorado City.
Twenty-year-old Lucas Salazar was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of delivery of marijuana, according to Chief of Police Ron Dooley.
"This an ongoing investigation that culminated in the application for a search warrant which was granted today and executed at 617 Cypress Street this morning," Dooley said Tuesday afternoon.
Police discovered large quantities of marijuana, assorted drug paraphernalia, cash and a pistol.
The police department was assisted by the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office and a trooper from the Texas Department of Public Safety in executing the search warrant.
"We feel like the suspect has been dealing to Colorado City citizens for awhile and know we've put a dent in the local distribution of marijuana," Dooley said.
Investigating officers making the arrest were Officer Traven Berrie, Detective Adam Davis and Police Chief Ron Dooley.
Delivery of marijuana is a state jail felony which carries a punishment of confinement in a state jail for any term of not more than two years or less than 180 days, according to the Texas Penal Code.
In addition to confinement, an individual found guilty of a state jail felony may be punished by a fine not to exceed $10,000.
The police department will continue investigations into further drug activity in Colorado City.
